Phil Mickelson may regret taking the week off, judging by the way his two closest rivals are playing at the BMW Championship in Lemont, Ill.

Mickelson leads the points list in the FedEx Cup playoff series from Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods, who both were just one stroke from the halfway lead at Cog Hill Friday.

Stricker and Woods will pass Mickelson by finishing first or second in this event, while a third-place effort by Stricker will be enough to jump ahead of Mickelson.

At next week’s Tour Championship, the players will compete for the US$10-million bonus awarded to the points leader, but there are two more rounds to be finished this week first.

I don’t know who I will be cheering for to win this event (the tour championship) Tiger will probably win but maybe it’s time for someone else to take the spotlight!
