Let’s Have a Meeting
I live in a wonderful city. St. Catharines, Ontario Canada. I have lived here all my life and I am proud of it. I was invited to a meeting with the local MP to discuss the manufacturing of local products as our city and region is constantly losing its industries and jobs to other parts of the world. He was a very nice fellow and very earnest in is desire to serve the people. However I felt there was not a lot he could do.
At the meeting was another fellow who also was passionate about helping the area with his products. Lots of people have ideas but how many turn them into products. This man does.
I think we should take a shot. Do something. Anthony Robbins, the self help guru said that personal power is the ability to take action. I guess then community power would also be the ability to take action. I am not talking about having another meeting. Do something and if that doesn’t work do something else.
We live in a greenbelt, rich farming with all kinds of products yet we are losing the last canning factory in Canada. I don’t pretend to know all the details but I believe we have the resources to do about anything we put our mind to. We should not be trying to save the plant we should be trying to make it into the best canning factory in the world. .
A friend of mine propose a downtown skating rink in the winter in a beautiful park. What a great idea and a project worth doing. I think there still is a possibility but I heard that different people had different agendas. I guess there will have to be more meetings.
We are building a new hospital and a golf pupil of mine said wouldn’t it be great to build it next to our local university and have a wonderful medical school. What a great idea. He did say it might be too late and they probably would have to have another meeting.
How about a downtown shopping mall? Another new arena for our wonderful junior hockey teams? I know this all costs money but other communities are doing it. Community power- the ability to take action. Do something. Take a shot.
Getting back to the two principals involved in the meeting. The MP was miffed by the amount of people that didn’t know who he was because he sent out the second most stuff one year and was fifth the next year. I can’t believe that someone in the top ten in sending out stuff is not known. I shouldn’t be so sarcastic because he is a good guy but let’s do something. Break the mold. Do different things. Get things changed. The other guy has the products and as he said “when I build it they will comeâ€. I just hope it is to St. Catharines.
