The Other Guy
I wrote yesterday about Hank Haney and his talk in Toronto. One of the other speakers spoke about putting. He has developed a high tech computer program that analyses your putting. My friend has the system and it is very good, however I found that he missed stressing some key points.
First of all he talked about making short putts and just trying to get long putts close. I believe we should be trying to make all putts. That way we are always focusing on the target and have a better chance of making the putts if we do. The more precise we are, the better we putt.
He didn’t talk to much about aiming the putter and he was very unsure of things saying things like I think it is this way or maybe its that way. Aim the putter and then react to the hole. If we aim the putter and don’t mess around with the face as it controls the direction then all we need is the speed and we know the right speed instinctively if we just react to the hole. If I told someone to toss a ball into a bucket five feet away most people would get the right distance by just looking at the bucket and reacting. This is the way we putt.
Now we must also be able to read the greens, which is to see which way the ground will cause the ball to break. This take a little experience but by watching what your ball does you can begin to learn and watch for things in the future. The whole secret of putting can be found in my book at www.kikogolf.com.
