Support

Well I think our Canadian boys did quite well at the U. S. Open yesterday with Jon Mills and Ian Leggatt leading the way. As I said yesterday just playing in the U.S. Open is quite an accomplishment.

Speaking of Ian Leggatt and I did mentioned it yesterday that I run into his mother, Joyce Leggatt, every year at a junior event, I find it amazing the support she gives him in her attitude. I am sure we all support our children but what I am talking about is a feeling I get that there is no doubt in her mind that her son should be playing professional golf and that is a viable profession. I do not run across this that often and I know he has had success but I can tell from day one that she was supportive of what he does.

Let me try and explain myself a little clearer. What would you say if your child came home at the age of say 18 and said I want to be an actress? Would you say “Great” lets see what we have to do to make it happen. What about a comedian? How about an astronaut? Politician? Singer? I think it is important that we look out for our children but if they would like to do something then I think that we should be behind them 100%. There are people that do these things and make a good living so why not your child. I run across this a lot especially when it comes to sports. How many people’s passions have been swept under the rug for the thought of getting a real job? More of us should strive to aim higher and pursue our dreams. Why wait? As far as I know we only get one shot at this life so at the end of it I hope we are not saying I wish I would have tried to become something else just because it wasn’t a “real job”.
