Kane and her Competitive Edge

According to the Edmonton Journal, "If Lorie Kane wasn't playing golf, she said she'd like to be a general manager of a hockey team. A Canadian hockey team, of course. I love hockey a lot. But I always love what I do. And I love being involved with the people I represent," said Kane, who now represents Canadian National Railways, the sponsor for this week's CN Canadian Women's Open in Edmonton."

"Every Canadian thinks of Edmonton as a hockey town but we are going to be a golf town (Aug 2007).

"I'm excited about it. This golf course is going to be a great challenge," she said of the Royal Mayfair.

Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I., Kane is, of course, the best female golfer to come out of Canada in years.

Starting golf when she was just five years old, Kane is a four-time winner on the LPGA Tour and is 13th all-time in LPGA money earnings.

In 2000 - after nine career runner-up finishes - Kane got her first LPGA win at the Michelob Light Classic. That same year she won again at the New Albany Golf Classic by defeating Mi Hyun Kim on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff .

She then captured her third title of the season at the Mizuno Classic by defeating Sophie Gustafson on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.

But despite two second-place finishes in 2002, three seconds in 2003 and one runner-up finish in 2004, she hasn't won since 2001, when she took home the Takefuji Classic crown.

"I know really good things are just around the corner. I just need to keep working hard at the things I'm working at and the ball will go in the hole," she said.

"Golf is a funny game. One day I'm driving the ball well, the next day I'm not putting so great. Or one day I'm putting great, the next day I'm not driving so hot.

"So when it all comes together it is going to be really great."

Kane, who made her debut on the LPGA Tour in 1996, has more than $6.5 million US in earnings.

She said she's still playing with plenty of confidence, despite earning just $61,759 this season.

"I feel good about me, I feel good about my game, I feel good about where I am," she said. "I have a lot of success thanks to golf and I see myself only having more.

"I've had some up and down times, but you know what, overall, I'm pretty fortunate that in the 11 years I've been on Tour I can say I'm 13th on the all-time money (list)."
